Samaritan Works and its Board of Directors sincerely thank the Fraternal Order of Eagles #1403 and its members for their generous donation of $2000 for bicycles and bike equipment for the Samaritan Works participants. “Transportation can be a huge roadblock in the road to recovery,” says Executive Director Tricia Alloway. She noted that most participants enter the program without a driver’s license or vehicle. Participants need to get to AA/NA meetings, appointments, court, job interviews, run errands, or attend church. Often, their schedules are outside the hours for local transit. This recent donation has made it possible to purchase bikes and safety equipment for the two sober living houses and repair the few bikes they already had. The bikes and equipment were all purchased locally at Carty’s Bike Shop in Sidney. Alloway noted that this is a perfect example of neighbors helping neighbors. “I’m constantly reminded of how generous the community of Shelby County truly is,” she continued. This collaboration with the Fraternal Order of Eagles #1403, Carty’s Bike Shop, and Samaritan Works will help 100’s of people in their journey towards faith-filled sober living. Samaritan Works is a Faith Based Sober living program offering men and women a safe, sober lifestyle and is a partner agency of the Shelby County United Way.
