If someone had told me six months ago that I would be the Executive Director of a sober living program, I probably wouldn’t have taken them seriously. Yet, here I sit in the office at the end of my first official week! (Six weeks in, as I was interim director since mid-June) Social services aren’t new to me. I have been in the field for 30 years, with the last 17 focusing on recovery and mental health. I had convinced myself I would stay where I was for the duration of my career, but God had a different plan. The opportunity presented itself to begin this new journey; in the earlier weeks, I came up with many reasons not to. I told myself I was too old to switch careers and had too much time elsewhere to walk away from. What if I failed? What if I didn’t have all the answers?
What if, what if, what if? Sometimes God calls us to follow his plan and let him worry about the what-ifs! But, you see, God already knows all the answers. Therefore, we must have faith that the what-ifs will all work out. So, at the end of my first official week, HERE I AM! I’m leaning on God to direct me and to handle all the answers I don’t have. Recovery is much the same. Those choosing to change their lives and become sober worry about the what-ifs. What if staying sober is the hardest thing I have ever done? What if I fail? What if my friends/family don’t support me? What if, what if, and so on…. Well, I don’t have all the answers. But I do know that God does! I know that anyone who wants to and has faith that they can make it can and will. With God’s grace, and a belief that he is here, taking every step with us, sobriety IS possible. That’s great news! Samaritan Works is designed to support anyone who wants to change their lives. We are faith-filled, sober living. We house up to 14 individuals at a time who need a place to live during their recovery. Additionally, we offer support to those who do not live in our homes through groups, referrals, one-on-one discussions, education, and accountability. If you or someone you know is ready to live a faith-filled, sober life, contact us for information by phone 937-638-4545, or our website www.samaritanworks.org, or on facebook. I don’t have all the answers, but I have faith that God will lead me and will lead you as well. I am blessed beyond words to have been chosen to fill this position. I am excited for the journey that awaits, and look forward to helping those choosing a life filled with possibilities and free from addiction!!! “For I know the plans I have for you says the Lord….” Jeremiah 29:11
