PRESS RELEASE
Samaritan Works is excited to announce the purchase of a vehicle to add to the services they can provide to their residents! Often when people come into our sober living homes for the first time, they do not have transportation. New residents in our program must get to doctor, court, and therapy appointments. They must navigate through the process of obtaining birth certificates, social security cards, and other needed documentation to begin to go back to work. For many in the first weeks of sobriety, the lack of transportation creates a huge barrier to putting their lives back together. Thanks to the Community Foundation of Shelby County, and their generous grant award, Samaritan Works will now be able help individuals living in their sober living homes break down this barrier. This vehicle will also be used for trips with residents to sober events around the area, adding value to the journey towards a life free from addiction. This vehicle was purchased locally in Sidney Ohio, and Samaritan Works is thankful for the work and assistance provided by Brad Gutman at Germain Ford. “We are blessed beyond words for the support and generosity of this community.” says Tricia Anderson, Executive Director. Thank you for helping in

Samaritan Works has moved our offices to 232 E. Poplar St. Sidney OH, 45334. Our Amelia House has had a new facelift, and we are excited for the new opportunities being inside one of the homes will bring! Our office hours are 9am to 4pm weekdays, by appointment. Call 937.638.4545 for information on our programming. Special THANK YOU to the Shelby County Sheriff Dept. work crew, Municipal Court Probation Dept., Lamar Painting & Concrete Coatings, and Motley's Construction, for your generosity! This move could not have happened without you all! As I sit here reflecting on the past six months, I have been the Executive Director. I am so very thankful for the “gifts” I have received since taking this opportunity. I have been blessed with the support of my family, friends, and my board of directors. I have also been blessed to be a part of the men and women in our homes’ journeys toward sober lifestyles. Our homes are currently housing 12 participants, and we just graduated three from our program this week! Over the past months, participants have been working hard. Most are employed, and all of them are taking an active role in giving back to those around us. I am constantly reminded of the GOOD in people. We recently added a “Box of Blessings” to our front office. The women decorated the box, and the men took part in placing it outside and have been taking turns adding items. News traveled through the community, and we have had several from the area bring things to us to add to our box. Each day we check the Blessing Box to see what has been taken and what has been given. I am touched by the number of things being left for others! We have celebrated Thanksgiving family style and will celebrate Christmas in a few days. As we look to next year, we are adding classes at the office, we have two new Program Advocates working for us, and we look forward to even more exciting further support for our participants! Samaritan Works offers the gifts of acceptance, forgiveness, friendship, family, and, most importantly, the gift of sobriety! We provide faith-filled sober living, and anyone who comes into our homes will experience this firsthand. This Christmas season, I have many blessings to be thankful for. Have a Merry Christmas all, and a Happy New Year! Tricia Participants of Samaritan Works, a faith-based sober living program, recently placed a “Blessing Box” outside their office at 315 East Court St. Executive Director Tricia Alloway stated that giving back to the community is an essential part of recovery. “Recognizing where we have been and where we are heading is part of the journey.” Participants put together the box and painted it. The box will be filled with free hats, gloves, food, and other free items for those who might need a helping hand. Director Alloway added that a prayer request box is also inside the cabinet. Prayer requests should be completed and dropped in the mailbox on our door. Participants will pray for those requesting it! Samaritan Works programming encourages those involved to pay forward a little of what has been given. The public is welcome to take items as needed. Generosity made greater. For one day, every dollar given to 25 local nonprofits will be matched up to $5,000 per organization from a match pool of $125,000, making every gift go further. Generosity brings people of all backgrounds together and provides everyone the power to make a positive difference. Everyone can be a philanthropist. Giving together is what this event is all about, because gifts of all sizes add up! This is your invitation to support community-wide efforts, because you can be a philanthropist too. Single day, lasting impact. We are working to raise significant funds that will be returned to each participating charity to do good right here in Shelby County. GIVING TOGETHER HAS A GREATER IMPACT! Local investment, effective solutions. Match Day is organized by the Community Foundation of Shelby County to benefit organizations who chose us to administer their reserve funds. Your gifts help local nonprofits you know and trust. Building relationships. By partnering with you and your local nonprofits, this day will capture the collective power of Shelby County. A big thanks to Dave Ross for making it possible to provide another matching opportunity of $125,000 for 25 local non-profits. Samaritan Works and its Board of Directors sincerely thank the Fraternal Order of Eagles #1403 and its members for their generous donation of $2000 for bicycles and bike equipment for the Samaritan Works participants. “Transportation can be a huge roadblock in the road to recovery,” says Executive Director Tricia Alloway. She noted that most participants enter the program without a driver’s license or vehicle. Participants need to get to AA/NA meetings, appointments, court, job interviews, run errands, or attend church. Often, their schedules are outside the hours for local transit. This recent donation has made it possible to purchase bikes and safety equipment for the two sober living houses and repair the few bikes they already had. The bikes and equipment were all purchased locally at Carty’s Bike Shop in Sidney. Alloway noted that this is a perfect example of neighbors helping neighbors. “I’m constantly reminded of how generous the community of Shelby County truly is,” she continued. This collaboration with the Fraternal Order of Eagles #1403, Carty’s Bike Shop, and Samaritan Works will help 100’s of people in their journey towards faith-filled sober living.
